Quote

John Adams famous quote “Democracy ... while it lasts, is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide”. In this quote, you have to have a higher vocabulary and grasp on government and what the words mean to fully understand it. So if you don’t know those big words in the quote or if you don’t know anything about the government, which I hope some people do know enough about the government to know how things work and are not totally ignorant about it. Like one of the words, aristocracy. It means that it is the biggest class in some societies, especially those holding hereditary titles or offices so; it would be a lot like a famous political family in the United States. Monarchy is a form of government in which the sovereignty is embodied in one or two more individuals, so it is a lot like England with the Queen (Dictionary.com).
The quote is about how democracy will eventually kill itself and that’s just how it will work. It is how the United States of America is working right now. We have rules, the constitution, and certain civil liberties that we all are comfortable in living with. But the main problem is that we end up twisting and changing things to fit those ideals to how we want them to bend such as rules. That is where we end up in trouble. Granted we have the rights to bear arms, it does not mean we can go around and kill people just because we want to. But it does happen. And then we would have to find lawyers to help us bend or break some rules and rights to make it seem okay and so that some people can get away with it. Democracy is almost like a rule, like once a rule is made or passed then someone will be tempted to break the laws or find a way around it, or they would just want to be a rebel.
So the question about the quote really comes down to, what is the fate of democracy? Do we find a way to change it and save the fate? Or would that infringe on the rights of democracy and its people? It is a double edged sword either way you look at it. For example like if I didn’t do this paper I would be in deep dodo. If you change it, it takes away the rights of the people and if you leave it as a true democracy, it will destroy itself eventually.
